Dalbello Krypton Cross Ski Boots Review

March 2, 2011

It has been far too long since I have upgraded a pair of ski boots. My previous boots served me well, but they were falling apart. Some of the were broken and the liners were totally compressed. I was not procrastenating - I just took a long time to start researching new boots and determining what suited me. OK - I procrastinated.

Dalbello Krypton Cross Ski Boots Did I mention it is a fine looking boot? The shell is black, but semi transparent and the white and red clips provide a slick look. I don't think the appearance will date too quickly which is lucky for me given how long I had my previous boots for.

Before reading any further, you should be aware that there are many different foot shapes and just as many combinations of ski boot manufacturers and brands each with different shapes. So even if you like what you read about any particular ski boots, make sure you choose a pair that are compatible with your feet.

My first impression of the Dalbello Krypton Cross was that they provided a nice, snug fit with great retention. There were absolutely no pressure points and I was very confident they would be comfortable on the slopes as well.

Walking around in the shop, it was evident that the boots were quite flexible. This also suits my style of skiing. Note that the resistance feels consistent throughout the full flex of the boots.

The arch of my foot is reasonably high, so I opted for footbeds to provide greater support. There are a number of plastic pieces that come with the boots which allow for various adjustments such a tilt and stiffness. The boot fitter has also skied in the boots and had a fair bit of feedback from skiiers. The result of this was that he recommended using one of the adjustment pieces to stiffen the rear of the boot. He said this would provide better support when carving.

The on snow performance of the boots have not let me down. One area that I have been very happy with is that the boots are great at absorbing shock when landing on hard surfaces. The liners also keep my feet nice and warm.

Overall, the Dalbello Krypton Cross is an extremely high quality and comfortable boot. It is light weight and offers great foot retention.

Disclosure: I was able to pick up the boots with a considerable discount, but I did not offer to write a favourable review for them.
